Exploring leadership, in general, is an enormous undertaking, which is far beyond our scope or purpose. For this reason, we must be very clear about our intentions and our objectives. More explicitly, we want to explore how the concept of leadership is understood and applied:
We also want to contribute to building up a better understanding of the leadership concept as it should be developed in the future, in our business community.
The many other possible directions which might be of public interest (politics, social issues, global issues etc.) are not within our areas on interest.
We should not forget the fact that the primary beneficiaries of this project is the young professionals (the future senior executives, who – one day – will have the opportunity to become leaders). Our key concern is to help them obtain an understanding of leadership which is solid (simple) and useful (applicable in practice).
Even if our purpose is limiting our focus, we must be realistic and accept the fact that our perspective remains one which is still very broad and difficult to cover, given the fact that all the work will be done by volunteers.
In order to synthesize, we must choose the perspectives from which we will apply our analysis. Our choice of dimensions aims to cover the business domains as completely as possible, while maintaining a degree of simplicity which will make the ‘journey’ of the beneficiary as attractive and simple to make as possible.
For this reason, we will focus on three fundamental perspectives: time, industry and function.
